Jianzi is a traditional Asian game, in which players aim to keep a weighted shuttlecock in the air using their feet and any body part other than the hands or arms.Originating from China in the 5th Century, the game is now widely played throughout Asia under a variety of names. In Vietnam it is called Dacau, and is the countries national sport.
Jianzi can be enjoyed both informally and competitively. The informal side of Jianzi is unlimited. From simple practice by onelself, through to groups of friends kicking one around in the park, you can decide your own rules and play in your own style. Competitively, Jianzi is played on a rectangular court with a net, much like Badminton.
The Jianzi consists of four coloured feathers which are fixed to a series of plastic or rubber disks.
Jianzi can be used as an excelent exercise device. Not only does it offer vigorous aerobic exercise, but it helps build hand-eye co-ordination.
